TEETH WHITENING

Your teeth come in a variety of different shades and may darken over time.  At Beechmont Smiles, we help you decide which whitening method is right for you!

Why aren’t my teeth white?

There are a few reasons why your teeth might not be as white as you’d like. The following are common causes:

  • Age

  • Injury

  • Genetics

  • Sickness

  • Medicine

  • Tobacco use

  • Contact with certain foods or drinks

  • Excess fluoride during tooth development

How can I whiten my teeth?

Your goals often dictate which method provides the best result. You may choose from an at-home system or one that’s completed in the comfort of our office.

Self-Applications

A range of at-home treatments offer options to whiten your teeth, including whitening toothpaste, strips, and trays.

Whitening Toothpaste

Whitening toothpaste may be the gentlest whitening technique, but this option doesn’t usually remove deeper staining. Whitening toothpaste may work if you only need minimal whitening or simply want to preserve your existing color. Whitening toothpaste generally doesn’t have side effects.

Whitening toothpaste can lighten your teeth, but it will not make your teeth as white as other products administered in the dental office. Generally, you should notice whiter teeth within a week or two of use.

While most whitening toothpaste is available for over-the-counter purchase, look for those with the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance. To ensure safe oral hygiene, it’s best to use products examined by the ADA with their Seal of Acceptance.

Whitening Strips

Over-the-counter whitening strips are available from various brands. Strips generally provide more whitening than toothpaste, but not as much as in-office treatment. At Beechmont Smiles, we can discuss whitening strip options with you to determine if it’s an effective way to boost your smile.

Whitening Trays

If you want the flexibility to whiten your teeth whenever and wherever you want, whitening trays deserve consideration. Our dental professionals produce custom-fit trays for your teeth used at home with whitening gel to brighten your smile. We also sell super convenient to-go trays that don’t require custom fitting and include the whitening gel built into the tray. These are used for 15-20 minutes at a time and can be used virtually everywhere. Both of these options contain a higher percentage of whitening gel than what you can purchase over-the-counter.

Office Treatments

To treat deeper stains and see immediate results, an in-office whitening treatment may be right for you. We’re certified in Zoom whitening, a quick process that leaves you with a better smile in an hour or less. We place gentle barriers over the mouth’s soft tissues for protection, and then we apply a high dosage of whitening gel across your teeth.

How do I take care of my teeth after a whitening treatment?

If you use whitening toothpaste or over-the-counter Whitestrips, carefully follow the instructions included in the packaging. If you purchase our professional whitening kits or complete our in-office whitening procedure, we’ll show you how to take care of your teeth afterward. Temporary sensitivity of the teeth and gums may occur after the application of whitening gels. You may want to avoid certain foods, beverages, and tobacco for 72 hours to achieve optimal results.  Be sure to ask us any questions you may have regarding whitening treatments.
